OUR MISSION

To develop a Self-Sustaining Community
. . . in harmony with nature and people.

"Central to achieving our environmental mission is the concept of sustainability. That is: using resources in a manner that meets our present needs without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs. To do so, we must foster thriving human communities rooted in ecological integrity, economic strength, and social and cultural integration."

"Total sustainability cannot happen overnight, of course, but must depend on many small steps, collaborative and individual efforts, and political and social will."

Audubon International http://www.auduboninternational.org/resources/principles.htm

This is a challenging, yet achievable goal that "cannot happen overnight". It depends on long term commitment -- "political and social will", in the words of Audubon International. And it takes a committed developer who "marches to a different drum" as Henry David Thoreau would say.

My commitment to Sustainable Community:

  • Personal Sustainability: Commitment starts with me, the resident developer. It starts with the choices I make in my personal life, like installing a rain water collection system on my home that makes us water self-sustaining even in the midst of the worst drought in our recorded history. I offer financial incentives and resources for residents to do the same.
  • Environmental Contribution
    • Preserving Nature: 500 acres or 2/3 of the Village property is a dedicated nature preserve, a green belt that is and always will be in its natural, beautiful and bio-diverse state.
    • Reclaiming Nature: Approximately 85 acres that was clear-cut some 6-7 years ago has been reclaimed for its highest use. What was a mess of briars and discarded treetops is now a vast meadow with sweeping canyon views where solar, geothermal and wind power can be effectively deployed.
    • Green Financial Incentive: Offering a 10% rebate (up to $10,000) on land purchases for qualified green initiatives. (Renewable power, Water)
    • Green How-To: Continuously working to build and improve a network of qualified environmental experts, contractors and suppliers.
  • "Thriving Human" Community Development
    • Building Amenities that bring people together
      • Community Organic Garden.
      • Village Commons: entertainment and outdoor activities venues.
      • Trails that connect neighbors and nature
    • Providing continuous leadership so amenities are not idle, but actually used to bring people together
      • Organic Coach for Community Garden
      • Theater, Movies, Music, Cultural, Sports, Education
